Corporate Social Responsibilities
The company has been carrying out various charitable activities for the upliftment of poor people of the society, particularly in rural areas. In addition, the Company and Trusts/Societies of the group have been discharging their responsibilities towards the society by providing funds and facilities such as the establishment and running of hospitals, schools, vocational training centre, awarding scholarships to poor students and donation to other charitable institutions. Proper utilization of the financial assistance provided is ensured by cross checks made before and after they are given.
Adoption Of 110 Villages In Karnataka Since 1993
Literacy is the primary need for the prosperity of any society. The company has thus identified it as one of its major objectives and consequently decided to build schools for imparting of education to rural children in at least 100 villages adopted by JAL around its factory for meeting their basic needs such as education, potable water and medical needs. School buildings in 110 villages have already been completed and handed over to the respective village panchayats. This has been made a continuous process with school buildings being constructed and handed over to the state government every year. The government on its part has posted necessary staff for spreading education.
The company has also dug borewells and constructed overhead tanks in several villages to provide drinking water to the villagers.
Jindal Naturecure Institute (JNI)
Started in 1979, JNI is a charitable naturopathy hospital with beds including 260 in the free ward. Patients in the other wards are charged at highly subsidised rates. The Nature Cure Hospital has earned world-wide acclaim in rendering service to patients suffering from various diseases like asthma, diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, migraine, all abdomen/liver problems etc. The treatment is based on judicious blending of the ancient concept of nature cure and yoga with modern diagnostic equipments, gymnasium, physiotherapy and treatment aids. Scholarships
Since 1969, Sitaram Jindal Foundation (earlier S.J. Jindal Trust) and other trusts grant/disburse scholarships to poor deserving students for pursuing their higher studies. Scholarships are granted for pursuing various courses such as graduation, post-graduation, agriculture, veterinary science, engineering, medical courses etc. Scholarship amount varies from Rs. 400/- p.m. to Rs. 2200/- p.m. depending upon the course of study. At present nearly 6000 students from all over the country are availing scholarship from this Trust without any discrimination of caste, creed and colour. It is fully ensured by the trust that the scholarship amount is utilized by the students for carrying on their studies rather than being misused. During the last three years such scholarships granted amounted to Rs.298.87 lakhs, Rs.348.29 lakhs and Rs. 130.83 lakhs respectively.
Donations
The Company and the Trusts are also giving recurring and non-recurring donations to other charitable institutions throughout the country. At present nearly 600 such institutions are regularly getting recurring donations from the Trust. Large quantum of non-recurring donations is considered to various institutions for construction of hospitals, school buildings, medical equipments etc. Donations paid by JAL & the Trusts for the last three years amounts to Rs.115.60 lakhs, Rs.169.21 lakhs and Rs.1216.61 lakhs respectively.
Manav Charitable Hospital
Manav Charitable Hospital is a full-fledged allopathic hospital established to meet the medical needs of poor people in rural areas. It is well equipped with latest and sophisticated diagnostic equipments including a modern laboratory. Well trained medical and Para-medical staff render services in various specialties like eye, ENT, dental, skin, orthopedics, gynecology etc. The hospital is well equipped to take care of any emergency. Several thousands of people living in neighboring villages who were so long deprived of basic medical facilities are benefited. Services like consultation, dispensing of medicines, operations etc. are given absolutely free regardless of caste, creed, religion, status etc. Eye operations are also done free of cost. Eye glasses and IOL are also provided free of charge. In addition, the hospital is rendering complimentary services in the field of family planning, child immunization and health education. Presently there is a turnout of 500-600 out patients per day.
Jindal Charitable Hospital
Started in 1987 this hospital is run by Jindal Hospital Society at Rajajinagar, Bangalore a location which predominantly comprises urban-poor and lower middle classes. On an average 600 out-patients are treated at this hospital daily. A team of 30 dedicated doctors and para-medical/other staff provide treatment facilities in the hospital effectively and efficiently. Besides out- patients, the hospital offers facilities like physiotherapy, X-ray, ECG, minor operations and ultrasound scan. All consultations and medicines are provided free of cost.
Jindal Public School
Started by Jindal Education Society in 1968, Jindal Public School is a charitable school recognized by the State Education Department. It caters to the needs of the children from neighboring villages. It imparts education from LKG to 10th standard with English as the medium of instruction. The present strength of the school is 1200. Since its inception, the school has maintained a 100% pass percentage record in the 10th standard (SSLC) examinations with more than 98% students attaining first class. The school is run on a purely charitable basis and donations from students / parents are neither collected nor accepted. On the contrary, liberal fee exemption/concession, mid-day meals, uniforms etc. are given to needy and deserving students.
Jindal Pre University College
Pragun Jindal Educational Organisation started the Pre University College from the academic year 2003-04 and it imparts education in Commerce and Science (including Computer Science). The present strength of the college is 300 students who mainly come from the nearby villages.
Mahila Arts And Crafts Institute
This Institute is imparting free of cost training in tailoring, embroidery, typing, shorthand, computer education etc. to women who are totally helpless, destitute and economically backward so that they may become independent and use the training gained to earn their livelihood. Stipend @ Rs. 200/- p.m. is also paid to the students of tailoring classes. The Institute also provides sewing machines to the poor and needy women/girls at 50% cost to enable them to start earning on their own at their respective villages. The remaining 50% cost is borne by the Trust. 200 women get training round the year. The students passing out are provided Certificates enabling them to get suitable jobs with ease.
Book Donation Scheme
S.J. Jindal Trust introduced the Book Bank Scheme in 1991-92 and since has supplied valuable reference books worth Rs.37 lakhs to nearly 250 colleges and polytechnics situated in rural areas all over India. Under this scheme, books are donated to each College to the value ranging from Rs.15,000/- to Rs.50,000/- depending upon the strength of students and requirement of the college. Jindal Public School is also donating books to several schools and colleges in rural areas.
Gold Medal In Universities
The Company has instituted 29 gold medals in 17 Universities/Colleges throughout the country, which give encouragement to students for achieving excellence in education.
Sita Ram Jindal Foundation (earlier S.J. Jindal Trust)
Sitaram Jindal Foundation (earlier S.J.Jindal Trust) was established in the year 1969 for carrying out various social activities on charitable basis. The Foundation has been discharging its social responsibilities towards the Society by providing funds and facilities such as establishing and running hospitals, schools, vocational training centers, awarding scholarships to poor and meritorious students, donations to other charitable institutions, book donation scheme, construction of patashalas in rural areas, etc. While spending money on charitable activity, it is ensured that not a single paisa is wasted, proper verification and cross checks are made before and after giving scholarships, donations etc. to ensure that financial assistance given is properly utilized.
